Garage Floor Plans

When you’re working with an architect or builder to design your dream home, don’t over look the necessity of garage floor plans.
There are so many things you can do to make the garage
more than just a place to park cars.
Start by looking at sample floor plans from your architect or at online sites that have house plans. These will give you some ideas of current trends in garage planning.
For instance, if you’re building a two-car garage, try making it a few extra feet wide. This will allow extra room for shelving and cabinetry, while leaving enough room for you to get out of your car without doing contortions or scraping up your back.
If you make the garage a few feet longer than average, too, you’ll achieve the same thing. You’ll have room in your garage floor plans for bikes, the lawnmower, maybe even a workbench.
Another option for making a really useful garage is to create a nook for extra storage, as a kids’ play area, or as a workbench area.
These are often located at the back of the garage in one corner. By extending the garage space out or into the house space by a few feet, you can gain a lot of extra space.
If storage is your goal, try raising the ceiling. Putting ten or eleven foot ceilings in your garage will give you an extra few feet of wall space all the way around on which you can put shelving for seasonal items.
Access to the house and yard is something else to consider. Of course, most garages have one door to the house, and the main door the cars drive in through.
Adding another door to the side or back yard can be very convenient. This will be helpful in bringing out yard and lawn tools, and as access for large toys.
If your laundry room is situated near the garage, putting a door to it in your garage floor plans gives you an instant mud room.
Good luck building your dream home! With a few extra tweaks, you can have your dream garage, too.
